La pastora Mariela Pereyra representa a América Latina en la 56ª CPD de la ONU en Nueva York. En su discurso, enfatiza la importancia de que todas las personas tengan la libertad de decidir sobre su sexualidad y sus vidas. Su participación destaca el compromiso regional de las iglesias con los derechos humanos y la igualdad de género.
La pastora Mariela Pereyra, vicepresidenta de la Iglesia Evangélica Luterana Unida, acompañó al programa global de género de la Alianza en la 56ª Comisión de Población y Desarrollo de la ONU en Nueva York del 10 al 14 de abril de 2023.
Durante el evento, Pereyra tuvo el honor de leer la declaración de ACT ante la Comisión, en la que se afirmaba que todas las personas tienen el derecho de tomar decisiones libres y responsables sobre sus vidas, incluyendo su sexualidad.
En la Comisión anual de Población y Desarrollo, la ONU revisa el estado de la salud y los derechos sexuales y reproductivos en todo el mundo. Esto incluye el progreso realizado, o el terreno perdido, en los esfuerzos por empoderar a las mujeres, educar a las niñas y eliminar la violencia de género y las prácticas nocivas.

ACT Alliance es una coalición de más de 135 iglesias y organizaciones relacionadas con iglesias trabajando juntas en más de 120 países. La justicia de género, incluida la salud y los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, es una prioridad para la Alianza ACT, y participamos en todos los pilares del Programa de Acción de la CIPD.
Reconocemos la importancia de una resolución conjunta en la 56ª Comisión de Población y Desarrollo. Con el enfoque en Educación de este año, debemos afirmar que todas las personas, especialmente jóvenes, tienen derecho a la educación. Esto incluye el derecho a una educación sexual integral, que permite a niñas, niños y jóvenes desarrollar conocimientos, habilidades y valores positivos precisos y apropiados para su edad.
Todas las personas deben tener la capacidad de decidir libre y responsablemente sobre sus vidas, incluida su sexualidad, salud sexual y reproductiva, siendo libres de discriminación, coerción y violencia.
El 84% de la población mundial se identifica como personas de fe, sin embargo el potencial de los actores religiosos en toda su diversidad promocionando el Desarrollo Sostenible, a menudo no se reconoce. En cambio, la religión está siendo instrumentalizada, para crear polarización y resistencia al logro de los compromisos de la CIPD.
Estamos trabajando dentro de nuestras propias comunidades de fe para ampliar las teologías que afirman los derechos, transforman las normas sociales e invertimos en asociaciones para abordar las barreras estructurales y culturales, procurando la justicia reproductiva para todas las personas.
Instamos a los Estados Miembros a:
1 – Aplicar plenamente y garantizar que no haya regresión o excepción en el Programa de Acción completo de la CIPD y las declaraciones posteriores.
2 _ Invertir en marcos de justicia sexual y de reproductiva. Tomar medidas específicas para eliminar barreras estructurales, leyes discriminatorias y normas sociales que restringen las libertades fundamentales y la autonomía corporal.
3 – Proporcionar recursos a las asociaciones de múltiples partes interesadas, incluso con movimientos feministas y movimientos basados en la fe, para afirmar la salud y los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, incluyendo la educación sexual integral, y el acceso a los servicios de salud sexual y reproductiva.
4 – Reafirmar y proteger plenamente los derechos humanos en las políticas de población, para garantizarlos en todas las personas, independientemente de dónde se encuentren en el mundo.
5 – Defender la integridad del sistema de las Naciones Unidas y participar en diálogos que se alejen de la polarización y se acerquen a la colaboración en beneficio de todos.
La fe en esencia es dignidad, justicia, compasión y amor.
Instamos a los estados miembros a actuar con estos valores, para garantizar que «no dejemos a nadie atrás».
